Windows 98se support?

So is Windows 98se still supported for the current generation of cards
or not? I just installed an ATI Radeon 9600 (using the cat. 3.9
drivers) and it seems to work fine - the ATI box doesn't list Win98 or
Win98se as supported OS's - however, the driver description says they
are supported using the WinMe driver. Other manufacturers who use the
Radeon 9600 chipset do list 98 as a supported OS (Visiontek, Gigabyte,
etc.) - so does anyone have any idea what the deal is? Are there any
issues which are likely to come up?

I bought the card in an effort to stretch my 'puter a little longer so
that I can still play modern games without upgrading the system - I
figured for$70 (the special at Best Buy on Thursday) I couldn't pass
it up!

The deal is that the WinME driver works with 98 but there is no
guarantee either that it will work well or that future releases will
continue to work, and if you have a problem with it you're up the creek
because it's unsupported.

If you read his post he said a 9600 but he did not say (pro or non-pro).
Best-buy has a 9200 for $99 and a 9000 for $79 online at this time.

What card did they have for $70. I'm looking for one for my sons
machine.

This is the regular ATI 9600 non-pro, 128mb AGP card - this is the one they
deep-discounted on the day after thanksgiving (regular price is $169, after
the discounts on Thursday it was $69.99 - best buy always has a screaming
deal on a upper-mid-range graphics card on the day after thanksgiving - they
had a min. of 10 per store, so if you got there early enough, you can pick
one up! I did the same thing a few years back for my old gf3-Ti200 card)

WOW. That was quite the deal !!! Did they have that in the paper or did
you have to go to the store and see what was on sale ?

It was in the Thursday paper - they had a bunch of stuff for cheap - there
was a laptop which was $400 off, a 120 gig HD on sale, etc.)

I put a 9600 non-pro in my kid's Win98SE machine. Seems to be working
fine...

Nice top post. Ever consider trimming? Ever consider a blank like
between your post and the one that follows? Ever hear of a paragraph?

Ever hear the word "nag", in reference to you?

chrisv, you are such a newsgroup nagging bitch. nobody cares about
top-posting and bottom posting, and your stupid jibes aren't going to
make anyone change. so shut up. bitch.

it's like having my mother in the ****ing chat. well, actually, I'd

My 9800Pro works fine With Windows98se and CAT 8.9 Drivers.

Newer System boards are working like CRAP with Windows98 thu... M$
will offically pull support for Win98 this January... so their UPDATE
section may not work any more or not updated anymore... who knows.

With older system boards (KT266 etc) Win98 with OLDER Mobo drivers
will give you a stable system (as much as Win98 can be).

New Motherboards... forget it...

That link is gone now. HA !
