I recently installed XP home and after installation I
found that all my files and e mail addresses had
disappeared. Nothing carried forward. How do I
reinstall windows 98, or at least word 97. Some of my
documents would bne invaluable as would the e mail
addresses

If you did a clean install instead of an upgrade I'm
afraid your files are gone. A clean install formats the
drive. IOW it removes ALL of the old files and loads
on the new ones. If you did an upgrade AND saved
the old files you should be able to go to the Add and Remove
Programs and remove XP.

Good Luck

Did you do an upgrade or a clean install?

There are file recovery program that might recovery some
files. But the more you install or work with the drive the
more likely is that the files will be over-written and very
difficult (say $$$$$) to recover.
