My friend just recommended this product, so I downloaded
it. I ran the authenticity routine and I'm authentic. I
run Windows 98- but no problem- the authenticity finder
will tell me if it's a problem.

No disgnostic.

When I execute the program- it tells me I need Windows 2000
or higher- and sure enough, the web page also has some sys
requirements at the bottom- I didn't even look- the
'authenticity' finder should do that.

So, waste of my time, and as a longtime tech writer- it
sure beats me that this is not handled in the install
routine somewhere earlier. At least- ADD VERSION DETECTION
TO AUTHENTICATOR - and announce it to prospective users- so
folks like me won't be bothered.

Now- I can't delete this t**d from my hard drive...

I'm very intrigued by that finding--previous encounters with the Genuine
Windows validation mechanism have required Windows 2000 or higher.

This is quite interesting--unless this is a fluke of some sort.

2000 and above only work, bud

The website where you downloaded this tool indicates that you need Windows
2000 or above - stop writing for a minute and do a little reading.

You will have to do some manual deletions and registry editing to cleanup
the mess I'm afraid.

I did go and test the Genuine Windows Validation on a Windows 98SE machine.
While I didn't get a clear "you are valid" indicator, the ActiveX control
downloaded, and I was then presented with the download page.

I found this interesting.
