Windows 98 machines will not logon to win 2000 server

Hello everybody.
I installed an ADSL connection to a win 2000 server
network using a 2nd network card to the ADSL modem in the
server. The windows XP machines can access the network no
problems and now have internet access but the Windows 98
machines cannot. I have checked that the netlogon service
is running on the server. Any ideas?

I assume you are using ICS or NAT, so if that is the case make sure that the W98
computers are using the same default gateway as the XP computers as shown by ipconfig
/all for the XP computers and winipcfg for the W98 computers. On the server check in
network connections/advanced/advanced properties to make sure that the internal lan
nic is at the top of the list. I highly recommend that you use a NAT router instead
of two network adapters for internet access, especially in domain controllers.
However if you do use a router, continue to use the server for DHCP and disable it on
the router if you are using a domain. -- Steve

Are you saying the 98 machines cannot access the network, the Internet or
cannot resolve a webpage, cannot login, or all the above?

We're going to need configuration info from your XP and your Win98 machines
and see what's different. My first guess is that the 98 machines are not
using the correct gateway address (your new mutlihomed server), but it
depends on your reply above to see if it's a DNS config issue.

Excellent point. Would always recommend a $39.00 Linksys router to handle
this instead of exposing a server on the Internet.
