Windows 2003 standard edition
RRAS running

Client XP/2000 dial in correctly

Client 98 SE couldn't dial in

In Event Viewer I got 20187 ... The user failed an authentication due to
the following reason: authentication was not successful because an unknown
username or incorrect password was used.

In RRAS policies I have enabled default authentication protocol (EAP,
MS-CHAP2, MS-CHAP)

Any idea?

Thanks

Sergio,

I've been having the same problem for a while. I believe that some of
the 'hotfixes' applied in the last couple of months caused this, because
I could start a PPTP connection from a Win98se system. back in August.

Win2k, WinMe continue to work just fine.

I have no problem connecting the win98se system to a W2k RRAS. :(

All I'm trying to do is make a VPN connection, no dialup is involved.

Let's hope someone figures this issue out.

Larry
