Windows 98 boot-up

I cannot get Windows 98 to boot up past the Windows logo
splash screen. I can't even go to safe mode. I keep
getting the message "While initializing device VKD,
Windows protection error..." What can I do to fix this?

It's not worth the hassle fixing this even if it can be done. Reinstall.
