Hey, I have an intel Celeron 400mhz with 96megs of ram.
I need to know what version of windows would run best on this computer, 98,
2000, or XP.

It will basically just be used for word documents and email.

Thanks

If you purchase and install at least another 128MB of RAM, I would
suggest installing Windows XP Home Edition. You would then have the
latest and greatest operating system.

First, you must run the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor and see if your
hardware meets the minimum requirements to install and run Windows XP.

The Upgrade Advisor is a tool you can download and install
to check if your system hardware and software are ready for
upgrading to Windows XP.

well getting more ram isn't an option, with the limited system, what OS
would be recommended?

James, I would recommend windows 98 or ME for your computer system. With
the limited system resources an older operating system more targeted for
your hardware would fit best here.

I second that, go for Windows 98SE as 1st choice.

(or 2000 even, but don't touch *ME* with a bargepole...)

Greetings --

Win98 or WinNT. You haven't enough processing power or RAM, even
though you exceed the minimum requirements, to get decent performance
from Win2K or WinXP.
