Windows 7 will doom Linux

(the article said that it won't necessarily doom Linux but we all know
that it will)

Ubunbu is doomed.

From the article:

"MacLeod states that the Ubuntu desktop looks "dated." I agree that the
default settings aren't particularly pretty, but it doesn't take
"commandline intervention" to change these settings, either. Looks are
often secondary to function (at least when it comes down to crunch time)
and while I agree with quoted journalist Ivo Vegter that at times Linux
can throw a puzzling error message with a somewhat obscure fix -- it
happens in other operating systems as well.

If Windows 7 is released and works well, it isn't a death sentence. It's
not even a real blow. It's a challenge, it's a shot at rethinking some
code, an opportunity to venture further with other applications, and
perhaps even a chance to sit back and say, "This is an area where the
rest of the industry needs to catch up to Linux."

Competition can be good. This is why Microsoft needs Linux."

The fact that Linux was *never* discussed on windowsxp.general doesn't
tell you anything?

The fact that MS is training their sales staff and Best Buys's to diss
Linux doesn't tell them anything, so I don't think an astute
chronological observation is going to tell them anything.

Yeah, they're pathetic when at their best.

Agreed. Very dated, actually.

No they're not. They're sort of pathetic.

Except on Linux where it looks better than it really is.

No, Linux on the desktop is already dead. It died sometime back in the early
2000s. The crowd that was going to adopt Linux - you know - the estranged,
the rainbow coalition, the painfully politically correct college and
university types - that crowd that was going to adopt Linux moved on to
Apple Macs. Well, maybe not in Spain, but aren't there parts of Spain that
don't have indoor plumbing yet?

It's irrelevant.

I'd laugh, but I heard that joke before. Mandrake filed for bankruptcy
didn't it?

Competition can be good. This is why Microsoft needs Linux."

On the desktop there is no competition between Linux and Microsoft. There,
the competition is played out on Apple Macs where Windows competes with OSX.

The fact that Linux was *never* discussed on windowsxp.general doesn't

That no one was impolite enough to misuse the newsgroup?

Have a nice weekend,

You obviously don't remember Leythos and Kurtrail. How about microscum.com?

I didn't "discuss" linux, I countered your drivel and lies about XP vs
Linux. Kurt was/is just a troll, so are you.

I was talking about the impolite part, not what was discussed.

Linux wasn't discussed by me before Vista came out because I didn't even
know about Ubuntu until 2006. Please keep your facts straight, lameboy.

Funny. It's been three years and you still know little about Ubuntu.
Loser.

What's even funnier is that I haven't had one single problem with Ubuntu
or Windows in those years. I guess my "lack of knowledge" keeps all my
machines purring like cats and running like silk.

Like I said, you really don't use your computer for anything other than
being a troll. I am sure you've had your computer running for years with
not one reboot. That includes all the upgrades you've done. You've never
had an issue with a driver, everything works first time.

BULLSHIT.
