Hi

As my daughters said "You would like the movie Dumber & Dumber".
Think they might be right as I can see no Windows 7 news groups.

Can someone please show me the way?

Keep smiling

MS has not created one. Consequently, this has become the default
group.

alt.windows7.general

Not all newsservers are carrying it yet

news.aioe.org has fot it

Hey Uncle Gus Microsoft isn't going to create a newsgroup...they have them
all on forums. they have a bridge that will bring them into Windows Mail.
then after you instal that you sign on to the forums using you Windows live
Id and go to settings and enable the bridge...the only thing I don't like
about it it has to be started each time you want to go into that group.

Unfortunately it's highly unlikely that there will be any Microsoft
Windows 7 newsgroups. Apparently Microsoft has decided that web-based
forums are better than newsgroups and they are putting their efforts
there. I'm personally sorry that's the case, but it's their decision,
not mine.

However there is at least one non-Microsoft Windows 7 newsgroup:
alt-windows7.general. Not all servers carry it (at least not yet), but
here's one free news server that does: aioe.org

Regrettably Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest ruined this newsgroup, so one can
understand the decision if not agree.

Ken, traditionally, the alt windows newsgroups have always seen way more
'noise' than you could ever imagine seeing in Vista general

alt.windows7.general has hardly any noise. Course, you'd have to visit
it to know that and you obviously haven't but that won't stop you from
posting this stereotypical nonsense now will it?

Actually there's very little noise so far...

Now there's a contradiction. Web-based forums have got to be about the
most inefficient, cumbersome way there is to communicate, other than
smoke signals.

Although what you say is true, I was simply answering his question. If
he wants to try alt-windows7.general, it's his choice as to whether
there's too much noise for him.

And I'll also mention that I participate in alt-windows7.general, and
at least so far, there's much less noise than in
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general

After you install the NNTP bridge and get it working, how do you bring
the forums into Windows Live Mail? I tried creating a Newsgroup "Microsoft
Forums" but that didn't work.

I have no objections against a web forum - if it can be alternatively
accessed via NNTP (and a user authentication similar to the web frontend).

Wouldn't be that a nice "showcase" for the SQL division? A lightweight NNTP
implementation should not be so hard to implement...

I greatly prefer access via a newsreader, primarily since it's *much*
faster. On the other hand, like you, I don't object to there also
being web-based access, *if* the web-based access works well and *if*
the newsreader access works well. There does exist an nntp bridge,
providing newsreader access to the Windows 7 forums, but so far it
works very poorly. I use it, because it's my only choice short of
spending much more time in the web-based forums than I'm willing to,
but I'm hoping for and looking forward to the nntp bridge being fixed
well enough to work without major problems.
