Dear Mary,
Interesting question.
The R300 is supposed to be detected automatically by Windows 7
(according to Epson web site). I have your printer driver on my copy
of Windows 7, so just plug it in and you should be away!
If the printer is not detected, contact Microsoft.
If they can't help, email Epson for support.
If that don't work you have THREE options left:
OPTION ONE
============
I expect that you won't need to do this, but as a last chance effort
follow this link below:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCook...
and download the Windows XP 64-bit driver for this printer. Try
installing it on your Windows 7 machine. I do not know if this works.
In doing so you are entering unknown waters. Microsoft (and Apple)
usually write operating systems that cause grief for people with older
or non-compatible hardware - hey its a big dollar business. Hopefully
when you try installing it, the driver will load, the printer will
start making the right sounds, and the sweet feeling of success will
overwhelm you with joy.
OPTION TWO
============
This may sound like gibberish. Try upgrading to Win7 Pro, and
download the Version of XP that runs as a virtual machine. This is a
version of Windows compatible with your printer that runs in a window
"inside" Windows 7 Pro. This is going to cost you more than a new
printer. By now you should be asking yourself if you really want this
printer.
OPTION THREE
==============
Donate the printer to a charity. Most people still use computers
with Windows XP or Vista operating systems, so might use the printer.
As you walk away you feel good inside knowing the printer will find a
new home, and you skip excitedly to your nearest computer store to buy
a new printer with ink and new featuires that in sum total costs less
than the ink would for your old printer.
hope this helps,
