i installed the damn thing fine using a spare IDE drive..

then i set up my RAID ( did i need to format those raid drives too ? )

and i dont have a 64 bit SATA RAID driver for the K8T800 VIA on the Soltek
with the 754 pin.

Soltek didnt seem to have anything on their website for 64 bit driver either
....

although i did find a 4in1 VIA driver set for install that is after win64 is
installed and it is for RAID but not before it's installed ...

i'm confusing myself and others .. so i think i'll stop now.

i found this on the web .. do u think this would work in a general
sense -- for any RAID system ?

thanks,

Try setting up Windows with just one drive in your system first using the
following sequence:

1. Made sure one SATA drive and your dvd drive arel the only active drives
in the system.

2. Attach the SATA data cable to SATA 1 on the mother board and plug a
power connector into it. Leave the power connector for the second drive
disconnected.

3. Start the system and go into BIOS. Make sure the SATA drive is
correctly detected in BIOS.

4. Set SATA 1 enabled in BIOS. Look for other SATA related options in BIOS
and set them to auto or enabled. Do NOT set any RAID functions to enabled.
Save and exit.

5. Start Windows Setup.

6. With one drive there is no need to install any drivers when you see the
F6 prompt. Just let setup continue.

7. After Windows is installed and running ok, then shut down your system.

8. Replug the power connector into the second drive, restart the comp, and
enter BIOS.

9. Set up your RAID options in BIOS. Save and exit.

10. Boot to Windows. When Windows detects your new RAID "hardware" and
asks for drivers, point it toward your a: drive where you have your sata
driver disk.

11. Windows should then enable the RAID array and you should be up and
running.

I hope this works for you. I have not tried it myself but have seen posts
by others that indicates this procedure works.

Good Luck.

That is not going to work, for two reasons. Firstly, the reason you need to
install additional drivers during setup is because Windows has no concept of
the RAID controller, regardless of how many drives are plugged into it - it
just won't recognise the hardware and has no drivers of its own. Secondly,
after the install (which won't work anyway - see reason 1) when you go back
into the bios screen to setup the array, this will destroy whatever data is
on the disks already, including the existing Windows install (which can't be
on there anyway, see reason 1 ;o) ). Now, I haven't tried creating a
mirrored array, which may preserve the data on an existing disk, but I have
my doubts about that, as how does it know which disk to use as the source
and which has the mirror?

Besides, both the Via and nVidia RAID controllers have 64-bit drivers
available, which can be used to install the additional drivers during
Windows setup. I'd be surprised of Silicon Image and Promise don't also
provide 64-bit drivers too.

Hope this helps,

i got the drives formated ( well win sees it as 1 drive) ...
then i installed the time limited win 64 that comes from the ms site

installed the dirver with the oemsetup.txt fon the floppy for the VIA 8237
south bridge ( or whatever it was )..
install gets a little ways asnd says windews 64 is not compat and recommends
stopping immediately ..
i go through install anyway
it fully installs within 35 min and then goes into the reboot mode .. where
it brings up that safe mode l commond prompt/ regurlar starteup options
screen and ... u can see the blue screen of death come up just as it's fully
loaded and it reboots itself ...

shucks ... maybe i should try the 32 bit drivers that came from the
motherboard people since VIA 8237 RAID SATA?
win xp64 crappola no worko.

any advice about this ?

I HAD NO PROBLEMS INSTALLING XP64 USING AN ata100 Hard disk ..
but as soon as i went to SATA RAID ... no go .
Satan's Raid ...
Santa's SATA prominade
