Does anyone know if there is a maximum allowed
number of connections to one PC via a peer to
peer network? If so what is it? This would pertain
to Windows 2000 and Windows XP Home. In other
words, if you are running Windows 2000 or XP Home
on a peer to peer network and using one computer
to store files is there a maximum allowed connections
to the computer storing the files? I was told by one
person Windows XP Home would only allow 4 computers
to connect to the file sharing computer at one time.

Thanks,
Jim

That is the conventional answer but I suspect it is based on a number of
assumptions.

How would any one peer know how many others were on the network?

Which peer decides that the net is full?

How are new entrants told that the net is full?

It's not a question of how many machines are allowed on the network,
it's how many (network) machines are allowed to connect to a single pc
(server) at the same time. The pc knows who is concurrently sharing
it's files and printers and will allow or deny access accordingly.
