Back in 2003, there was a post regarding windows 2000 profiles hanging
at the login prompt. I saw no resolution and have searched on Microsoft
and here for the answer to why the computer hangs at the login prompt.
To summarize, the user is running windows 2000 service pack 4, with no
roaming profile; when the user starts the computer, the login prompt
loads and after entering the password, the computer hangs at a blue
screen. No matter how long you leave the computer like this it remains
hung. Unlike the original post in 2003, if we unplug the computer from
the network and login the computer boots with no problem. After logging
in successful the user can then plug in the network connection and
continue working on the network.

Any suggestions regarding this problem?
Thanks
Shannon

I would check the DNS first. If the DC is 2003 with SP1, also check MTU.
