I am using a Windows 2003 Sever Standard edition to act as
a file server. It has a dial-up Internet connection and is
shared across the network with ICS. The domain is local
domain.

In the last few days, the server has stopped responding to
file access about one per day, but the Internet is still
working. I need to power down the server and the server is
up and running again. When I check the event viewer it
gives Event ID 4015 and the details:
The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the
Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is
functioning properly.

What is the possible causes? Any suggestion to resolve the
issue?

Thanks

You should not use ICS on a server that has either DNS or DHCP running.
Disable ICS and configure NAT in RRAS.

ICS has a DNS proxy service that conflicts with the DNS server service.

I hope you will take my word on this :-) , I'm getting really hungry and
need to go to lunch or I would find the KB article that covers this issue
right now. Be back in an hour.
