Hi,

I want to setup a forwarder from my internal DNS servers to the ISP's DNS
servers.

Could someone please explain how I can achieve this and what the advantages
are.

Cheers

D.

In the DNS MMC, rightclick on the servername, pick Properties. The
Forwarders Tab should be visible.

Actually, you probably want to set up a forwarder to your Internet routers
internal address rather than to your ISPs DNS servers. Your router would
have the ISPs DNS servers in its TCP/IP config.

Frank that would be incorrect. What you are saying is forward to the
gateway. So how is the name resolution request going to be resolved by the
gateway? This is why you put the isps dns servers in the forwarders tab so
the name resolution request gets to the isps dns servers specifically.

Frank is correct. The NAT Devices he is referring to will relay DNS request
made to it and send the request on to whatever DNS Server they receive from
DHCP on the "external" side.

I don't personally do it like that myself since it is just adding another
device into the "chain of events" that may breakdown or fail. I try to give
those NAT Devices as little to do as possible, but none-the-less it is a
normal way it is done and quite common.
