I have a new w2003 server as the only domain controller on a small office
LAN.
There is no IIS needed or installed on this box. I do use several
applications that email their end status.

How do I open just port 25? It's closed by default until IIS is installed
but that is too big a risk.

You open port 25 by installing an SMTP server that listens on port 25.
Simply "opening" the port, if it were possible, won't do you a bit of good
unless there's a server there to answer and send information.

Thanks for information. I do not need SMTP, I only need to be able to send
an email from my application at end of processing. The email will go to my
ISP and off to the office manager for that site. I have looked at group
policies and local policies on the server and have found my fix. no SMTP
required.
