I have a Windows 2003 Ent. Server. I tried a Maxtor and a Western Digital USB
drive that I wanted to use for backup purposes as tapes are a pain and no
luck. I see the drive being recognized, it appears in the device manager
under disk drives, but I can't see it under my computer, nor is it in disk
manager. It seems to be a Windows problem as I have 2 other servers with
different editions of 2003 and they have no problems. However, this is a
Dell Poweredge 2600 with 2003 Enteprise ed.

Any ideas?

It might be hidden by a mapped drive. Use the high letters
of the alphabet for your mapped drives so that the low letters
are available for local devices.

I am not sure what you mean as I cannot even access the drive to map it. It
simply does not show up in my computer or disk manager. It shows up under
disk drives under device manager but that is it.

Do this:
- Start a Command Prompt.
- Type this: net use * /del
- Disconnect the USB drive
- Wait 10 seconds
- Reconnect the USB drive

Is it visible now?
