We are running a full windows 2003 native domain and we mainly use dns for
name resolution. We have 1 old windows 2000 servers which use to be a
domain controller but now its a member servers. Its has DNS and WINS
running. The problem is when we stop the WINS service, most users logins
takes a long time such as 10 mins, it remains on applying personal settings
for ages, when we start the WINS service then the logins are much quicker
and normal. All the PC clients use DHCP and they have no WINS settings set.
Is there any reason why this slow logon is linked to WINS.
