Whoever had the computer before evidently installed a "dual-boot" setup -
and may have messed it up. :>(
Can you post the contents of the C:\boot.ini file? It is plain text, but
probably has the Hidden, System and Read-only attributes set.
Also, tell us more about the computer, especially the make and model, plus
how many hard drives and how they are partitioned.
Your problem may be simple to solve, at least partially. Just go to Control
Panel | Advanced | Startup and Recovery Settings. In the top section of
this screen, set your default OS to Windows 2000 and the delay time very
short (I use 5 seconds) or to zero. This won't eliminate the other OS, but
it should reduce the bother while you find the complete fix.
