"just relax"
Are you protected to the max from intrusion?
AVP (antivirus program) up to date, software firewall in stealth mode,
hardware firewall visa-v router. No extra users; if so they are on separate
user with proper permissions established? If there is a possibility of any
infiltration run "housecall",
www.housecall.antivirus.com (run without
subscribing). If "no prolum", probably okay with somebody jacking with-yas.
You can try running from the Command Prompt, " chkdsk /r/f/v " (without the
quotes)( I left a space on purpose)(takes half hour or so) Like scandisk for
W2K.
There is a certain condition in W2K that actually slows the machne, but I'm
not smart enough for that. I'm sure one of these really smart guys (gals)
can let you know the possibility of that happening. (but I don't think it's
that personally).
You can install the "msconfig" console made for "XP" and use it to narrow it
down. Just do a Google.

You also can simply create another user to see if the slowness is contained
in your user account (doesn't have to be the administrator either).(better
if its not)(later you can create a new user and delete the old one to get
rid of built up trash)
If you do create a new user, don't nuke the old one until you have
everything like address books, etc.. If you haven't doe it before, the
favorits file is easily transferred. File | Import and Export / follow the
prompts and save it to your desktop, go to the new user and import it.
Remember there is no computer that is fast enough. I have a twim 3.06 with 2
Gig of DDR3700 Dual channel and it runs like a whale slug sometime. And it's
on a cable modem with a crack for upload max. Be good to your computer, but
better yet understand that its a machine and no matter what you do there is
nothing better than knowledge to give you satisfaction. Preach-Preach-Preach
(shat-dap to me) have fun
Well, you have enough to get started or fixed. Either way, hope it does some
good.
Sometimes we all do some not smart things out of curiosity, especially the
those of us who seem to be OCD about all of this.
good luck,
don
P.S. Could use more information.
Do you have all of your data, address book(s), favorites, preferences, etc.
backed up.
You need this in case you need to Fresh Install in the future, whenever.
What Service Pack are you on.
How long has it been since a Fresh Install.
Have you installed any new programs recently.
Why did you defrag. How often do you defrag.
Does anyone else use the computer.
If so, do you have separate users setup.
Do you know how to run "msconfig"
You can download an msconfig.exe file for XP and it will work fine.
If you haven't used before do a Google search for "msconfig for W2K" and
read how to use it.
You can open a Command Prompt and run chdsk /r/f/v . It may take a couple of
hours.
I have never had a problem with my win2000 until I
defraged it last night. Today all the sites take forever
to load, what did i do?
