Windows 2000 Windows Protection Error

Does anyone out there know why sometimes my computer halts
and locks up, gets a blue screen that reads: While
initializing device SAVRT, Windows protection error,
system halted?
Is this a hardware problem inside or a software problem?
I recently had my power supply unit replaced and upgraded
from Windows 98 to Windows 2000.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
If you're running any Norton products, such as Internet
Security or Antivirus I'd say to remove & reinstall them.
I believe SAVRT.vxd is a Norton file.
