Can anyone guide me on these errors please.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DNS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4515
Date: 06/01/2004
Time: 05:34:25
User: N/A
Computer: NOTT0011S
Description:
The zone uk.local was previously loaded from the directory partition
MicrosoftDNS but another copy of the zone has been found in directory
partition DomainDnsZones.uk.local. The DNS Server will ignore this new copy
of the zone. Please resolve this conflict as soon as possible.

If an administrator has moved this zone from one directory partition to
another this may be a harmless transient condition. In this case, no action
is necessary. The deletion of the original copy of the zone should soon
replicate to this server.

If there are two copies of this zone in two different directory partitions
but this is not a transient caused by a zone move operation then one of
these copies should be deleted as soon as possible to resolve this conflict.

To change the replication scope of an application directory partition
containing DNS zones and for more details on storing DNS zones in the
application directory partitions, please see Help and Support.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Sorry did not explain this in detail but the windows 2003 standard edition
holds all the FSMO roles and the windows 2000 servers are part of the same
domain in AD.

Nothing comes up on the 4515 error.
Were any changes made to your Site configuration?

When you created this zone as AD Integrated, did you have it replicated to
any other partitions?

Neither have I ever seen that error myself and was surprised to see it too
not sure if this person has made any changes to the site config
BUT
The site is massize and it has approx 15 external two way trust to other
sites which is for the same company but different forest.
This site where the problem is has 3 servers among which 2 WIN 2k and 1 Win
2k3
Win 2k3 which has the problem with these errors and it keeps repeatign
itself.
is there anyways [ utilities in 2003 i can run to fidn out more detail
information on this one.

cheers

Not that I know of at this time, since I can't find any doc's on this error.
I've seen it posted recently in this group with the same error and the
problem was the person renamed the Default-First-Site-Name and I believed
that caused the error. It has something to do with an AD Integrated zone and
how it was set to replicate to other Domains in the W2k3 forest. So at this
time it wouldn't appear to be associated with external domains that are
trusted. Or it may, assuming that someone tried to replicate this zone to an
external trusted domain (which I haven't tried yet).

So sorry, unless one of the MS folks respond and are aware of this *new*
error.

Hi THERE!!
I've been running into this quite frequently lately. The problem is in
MIXED environments W2K and W2K3 DNS Servers.

In W2K3 there are numerous different ways to replicate the DNS data, DNS
Servers only same domain, all DNS servers in the Forest, all Domain
contollers in the domain.

The replication to All DOMAIN CONTROLLERS in the domain is the only
replication method that W2K Server can do or support. It sounds like
someone switched the replication of one of the W2K3 DNS servers after an
upgraded or after it was added to the domain.

In any case, just make sure that all W2K3 DNS servers are set to replicate
ONLY to "ALL domain controllers in the Domain" if you'll notice there is
a little pop up that states that is the Only W2K complaint way of
replicating.

Once you change all W2K3 servers to that method, just wait a few days,
depending on the size of your environment, and the problem will work itself
out after replication has completed.

Thank you,

Alan Wood[MSFT]

It is highly suggested (but it's not in print anywhere) never to rename the
default site. Rename it back to the original and create a Site for whatever
you need, associate it with whatever subnet it's for and move the servers to
that Site. Then restart the netlogon service on the machine so it
re-registers the new info into DNS.

No need to call anyone, unless something gets messed up along the way...
