I know the answer depends, perhaps in part, on preference.
However, based on identical hardware, I'm looking for
opinions regarding things like performance
efficiency/speed, memory management, stability, and
administration. Thanks in advance!

I'll rate both OS's based on a scale from 1 to 5 (5 being
the better)

My Opinion (based on my experience):
performance - efficiency/speed
XP = 5
W2k = 4
memory management
XP = 5
W2k = 3 (could even be a 2)
stability
XP = 5
W2k = 5
administration
XP = 4
W2k = 4

It is my professional opinion that XP is the better of the
two OS's.

Hope that helps...

I've never used XP on my own computer, but based on what I've heard, Win
2000 is better in all of those areas. Overall though, the two operating
systems are very similar in those areas, although the GUI is a lot different
in XP. Also, XP as it comes has a lot more bugs and security holes, though
these can be fixed with patches.
