Windows 2000 Very slow boot time

When I turn on my computer is takes hours to boot up to
the normal desltop and the hard drive is in a rythem of
noise. It just makes the same noise over and over while
items slowly appear on the screen, this takes hours...
Please any help, I have tried several different boot
modes with no help...
