1.) Usually means Ntdetect.com file is missing or damaged. Recreate the
setup disks.
2.) You can set to boot order in cmos setup. After doing so you'll need to
watch, at POST, for the keystroke to confirm boot from CD-Rom.

| Greetings,

| After upgrading to Win2000 I received this error:

| Using the first Win 2000 boot disk I get the following error:

| Which piece of hardware is 0000100B?

| Other instructions recommend starting the PC with the Win200 CD. This

| Any suggestions? Anyone?

I did recreate the Win 2000 startup disks again. Not just once. T
clarify I had to recreate the second disk three times and the fourt
disk four times. Finally I was able to get 4 good startup diskettes.
I can tell you that it is critical to use empty formatted high densit
diskettes.

If the software hive is corrupt, it may be possible to rename th
software hive found in;

C:\windir\system32\config\software to software.old

DOS COMMAND would be:
C:\windir\system32\config\REN software software.old

Then copy the most recent backup file (named “software”) found in

C:\windir\repair\regback\

To

C:\windir\system32\config\

DOS COMMAND would be:
C:\windir\repair\regback\COPY software C:\windir\system32\config\

Then kill the power on your PC let it sit a moment then turn the powe
back on.

I was able to run. Later in the day I loaded a couple mor
applications.

Then I got the SYSTEMCED error. I give up! Back to Win98. Afte
reading all the posts on SYSTENCED errors it really makes sence t
throw in the towel.

What a dissapointment!

If that's the issue then why not disable it? To wipe the drive, some ways
include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk and delete all partition
information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or boot the Windows 2000
CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to the point, delete the existing
NTFS and or other partitions found, then abort the install. Or use a utility
named delpart. Once removed you can boot the Win98 CD-Rom or restore CD-Rom
to start your install.

| I am convinced this is the source of the problem.
|
| I have the Promise Technology, Inc. ATA66 PCI controller card

|
| I believe the resolution may be a little to technical for me.
|
| I tried to install Win98 again after clearing the machine and it
| appears I have a new list of issues because the drive has be set up for
| Win NT now. I guess I'll keep reading. Any recomendations on removing
| Win 2000 and preparing the machine for reinstalling Win 98?

I may just give it a try and disable it. However, My primary use fo
the PC is Digital Audio recording and video editing which requires
fast hard drive.

I'm not sure what the funcion of the ATA66 PCI controller card is.

I'm running programs like Cakewalk, Cubase, Acid Pro, Vegas Video.

I'm not sure if the ATA66 PCI controller card is critical for thes
apps.
