Windows 2000 Shutdown

Hi,

I have seen plenty of posts out there, but none that clearly explain what to
do.

I have a number of Dell servers PE1750's, 2650's and 2600's.

I have them all setup on a UPS with network shutdown.

The problem we run into is most of these servers when they autopower off..
they turn off completely and when power is restored, they don't turn on
again.. I would like to know how to configure Windows 2000 Server (SP4) to
not power off the system on shutdown.

My BIOS for Dell doesn't have anything except a option to turn off the power
switch which works, but then disables the power button.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Paul

Whether or not the UPS can power the servers back up is entirely dependent
on the motherboard capacity/BIOS on the server, as far as I know. Check with
Dell and see what they have to say.

Lanwench is correct it should be a cmos setup mobo issue.

Guys,

Thanks.. I have looked into that one.. Dell says the system has to be left
in a "Windows is now safe to shutdown mode"

rather than compltely poweroff which apparently the OS does automatically..
There isn't any way to disable that in the dell bios.. I can turn off the
power switch all together, but then i can't shut the server off without
unplugging it.

There is a way to do that through Win2003 with a patch/registry change.. but
i was curious to see if there is a fix for Win2k as well.

Hope this clears up any confusion..

Thanks!

Paul

That might work.

The Device Manager has ACPI Enabled in it.

I wonder if I disable that would that help?
