I have one computer on a Novell/Windows 2000 network that
is rebooting itself at random it seems. The user will
receive a Windows shutdown error message that reads "The
system process c:\winnt\system32\services.exe terminated
unexpectedly with status code 128. The system will shut
down and restart." I have tried some registry edits that
I have found in the knowledge base, and I have SP3
installed. One of the articles said SP3 may fix it, but
no such luck. I was thinking maybe a piece of hardware
but after about a day of searching the web, it does not
seem like this is the case. Has anyone else had this
problem? Any ideas and online documentation would be
appreciated. By the way the client in question is a
Compaq EVO 310 with a 2.4GHz processor, 512 RAM, and a
40Gig HDD.

error 128

I've got the same problem. I can't not boot correctly. I get the message " Shutdown and restart" "Services.exe terminated unexpectedly error 128" just before the UserId/PWd popup.
I guess I will hace to repair Win2K to solve it (but I'm not a machine admin)
