Hi

After an electricity problem, the server shut down suddnely
at least 5 times. Now Windows 2000 server family cannot
restart. I have the windows of startup and nothing happened
after that. I don't have a recent backup and also I don't
have emergeny repair diskette. What can I do to repair
windows without loosing my data base or configuration.

Thanks

Marie

Electronics are particularly sensistive to power spikes. Thats why on
mission critical servers its a good idea to provide quality UPS power. You
might try using the W2K recovery console and try the fixboot command if you
can't start in VGA mode.

You'll want, at bare minimum, to perform a diagnostic on motherboard and
peripherals if you think the problem is hardware.

For that type of serious problem where you have known hardware problems
you want to concentrate on your data, not repairing Windows. I would
suggest that you put the drive from this system in another system and
copy off all your data. After you have copied all the data you can then
run chkdsk on the drive and see what that repairs. You will likely end
up rebuilding the system after this type of problem
