Windows 2000 scandisk at every bootup

I have found various info and advice on this subject, but all addresses NTFS.
My old Windows rund FAT 32.
I have done some extensive research and checked the registry to find things
to be in order (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\Session
Manager
The default value is:
BootExecute:REG_MULTI_SZ:autocheck autochk *)

There is nothing wrong with the drive, and Scandisk never finds any errors
when running at bootup.

I have not been able to find any solutions, but I assume the dirty bit gets
set every time the computer closes down (no matter what)

Would a safe and valid work round be to add the k parameter to the registry
value, eg.:

BootExecute:REG_MULTI_SZ:autocheck autochk /k *

or should I add the drive letter, too?:

BootExecute:REG_MULTI_SZ:autocheck autochk /k:c *

Any help and guidelines would be appreciated - thanks.

Anders

Could be it bluescreens at shutdown. Check the event logs for clues. Also
download and run the disk manufacturer's diagnostic utilities.

Hi Dave.
I did that some time ago: took down the dianostic tool from Intel's site and
ran it a couple of times. No problems were detected.

So, believe me, I have done a lot. The problem actually introduced itself
when I had to upgrade the computer due to a CPU crash. The P III CPU dies one
morning and I choose to upgrade to a Duron 1,2 Ghz (Motherboard and CPU) and
then I reinstalled everything from scratch.

I did add the parameters /k:c * to the subject registry key in
CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager and the problem now ceased to
appear. But I should perhaps add a scheduled task running Scandisk every week
in order to avoid problems if "a dirty bit of a true nature" ahould be
written - that the disk really should need a consistency check.
