Is there a tool that can test a program installation to see if it is compatible with
Windows 2000? Where can I find such a tool?

Thanks!

Easiest to ask the application developer. Also from the "Run" box
regsvr32 %systemroot%\AppPatch\slayerui.dll
to enable application compatibility mode.

Patrick, my problem is that I'm down to a small handful of programs where either I can't
contact the app developer or they are not responding.

My most important issue is ULead GIF Animator 4. Easy to use, but ULead isn't responding
to any inquiries and my original media is gone. Since there's no config info in the
Win98SE registry I want to move the whole program install directory structure over to
Win2000.

I'd rather not deal with application compatibility mode if I don't have to.

Thanks,

Bill.

I'd say the chances of that working are very slim. If it's copying a few
files give it a go.

With no install media that program is living on borrowed time. First
harddrive malfunction and that program is history.

Got it working. I copied the entire Program directory over to the Win2K directory. Seems
GA4 does have registry entries, so I exported the registration and serial number
registry entries, checked that they are compatible with the Win2K registry, and imported
them into Win2K. Viola- it works! And my GIF Animator 5 upgrade recognizes the install
so I now have a solid install of GA5.

But it would still be nice if there was a tool that I can use to run over .EXE and .DLL
files to see if they are compatible with Windows 2000. I thought MS had one available
years ago.

Bill.
