Windows 2000 SP4
Microsoft Office Pro 2000 SP3
Machine when logging in as Workstation only has a local
profile on it that I want to delete. However, when I try
to delete or rename it, the system tells me the ntuser.dat
is in use. If I go into safe mode with command prompt I
can then delete the profile. However, when I boot up
Windows normally and am logging back into pc as local
administrator, the profile is back with the domain name as
an extension ie drichardson.catdom1
If I then reboot the pc and go into safe mode with command
prompt again then I can rename or dlete the new profile
which was created but if I then reboot Windows normally
then the original profile name has returned so I am then
able to delete the dom1 profile but not the new one which
has been created.
If I then reboot pc and go into safe mode with command
prompt I can rename new profile. If I rename it and reboot
pc but go back into safe mode with command promt then the
profile is still listed as being renamed and it has not
created a new profile. I then disconnected the pc from the
network by disconnecting the patch lead but when Windows
booted up normally, the system then recreated its own
profile again despite not being connected to the network
at all.
PC has been checked for viruses with 2 different Virus
checkers ie Sophos Anti Virus and Trend Housecall. Both
anti virus packages say pc is virus free.
Why would the pc recreate a new profile for a user that I
am not even logging in as and not even connected to the
network?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
