I recently purchased & installed W-2000 Professional on my
Compaq Presario 1240 Laptop with a Compaq Presario 56K-DF
Modem which is listed as o.k. on the HCL. The modem no
longer works & it seems it is due to a BIOS problem
according to the message I received:

"This device is disabled because the firmware of the
device did not give it the reequired resources (Code 29)

Troubleshooter indicates: "The device was disabled by a
user through the BIOS setup program or it has been
disabled by the computers BIOS because it is not needed
inthe current configuration."

Any ideas? This form doesn't ask for my e-mail address
but it is (e-mail address removed). Thank you, Mike Ennis

Your laptop (and current bios) may not support ACPI hal and or may have been
installed using the standard hal which wouldn't take advantage of IRQ
sharing, hence there may not be enough free resources (that the device is
capable of using) available. The pc's bios may need to be upgraded. Device
Manager then expand 'Computer' to see what hal was used. This may also help.

Hi Guys,

I´m having the same problem with installing W2K Pro on a
Compaq DeskPro EP. I get a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
blue screen error. I disabled processor cache, tried F5
during setup, F7 during setup, but without any positive
results. It is clearly an ACPI error, but what can I do?

I followed Dave´s advise (my system doesn´t show all the
options mentioned) but how do I get the necessary drivers
from Compaq installed?

Any additional suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Check the Compaq site for an updated bios.
