I recently returned from a trip where I had not used my PC
at home for two weeks. I started it and it ran fine. The
first thing I did was update my Norton anti-virus
definitions. It seemed to go well. The second thing I
did was plug in new USB 64 Meg flash drive. I then
proceeded to access files on the flash drive. 1st
exploerer locked. Then it would not recognized the drive
and locked. after several attempts at reboot it appeared
to start then when panic aware popup stopper would try to
start the PC would lock. I removed the pop-up stopper app
and now that start flash no longer appears but the PC goes
to safe mode and locks. I tried to boot from the 4 disk
floppy. The forst time it ran to allow me to the f8 menu.
Now on disk 3 I get a file corrupted arror while the disk
loads. Any Idea? Do I have a virus? Where do I go from
here?

Thanks

Uhm...starting from the 4 setup floppies means you want to
re-install Windows 2000, is that what you want ?
Usually you should boot from the Windows 2000 CD directly (only
old PC's won't allways allow CD boot) to install Windows 2000.

If the PC does not boot from CD, you need the 4 floppies:
If the first 2 disks were loaded fine and just number does not,
I suggest that floppy disk is bad.
You can create the 4 setup floppies yourself, on any PC with a
CD drive:
- insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM
- format four 1.44 MB floppies
- Run the following command from the CD: \bootdisk\makebt32.exe
This will create the 4 floppies for you.

Thanks for you reply. I would rather find the problem and
fix it. I know that if I reinstallm it will revert back
to the original install. I had a lot of other software
installed, and I would rather not loose all my settings.

I have all of my data in seperate partitions, so I don't
think it is at risk. I will reinstall if I have to, but
only as a last resort. Anyu suggestions for
troubleshooting.
