I recently upgraded my computer from Windows Me to Windows
2000 Professional. The computer boots and comes to the
login screen. When I login it says loading user
preferences and then pops up a box with saving user
preferences and goes back to the login screen. The
administrator and default login both do this. No other
user accounts have been set up. I called Microsoft support
yesterday and was on hold for 4 and 1/2 hours. I called
this morning and was on hold for 3 hours. I have yet to
speak with anyone from Microsoft and I am disappointed
that I paid the price for the software and cannot get a
response for my questions.

I just upgraded from 98 to 2000 and I am having the exact
same problem. I have upgraded about 50-75 machines the
same way and have never seen this problem.

Back in '99 with beta 3 the MS engineers were telling us to avoid even upgrading over 98 although supported suggesting clean
installs. I've upgraded many times too on many different systems and on a few occasions have had to start over and go clean.
Sometimes the question "why?" has no answer.
