Windows 2000 Professional Re-installation

Hello

I tried to reinstall my Windows 2000 Professional because I dont see any programs running on my Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel - my all installed programs(like Word, IE, databases etc) were not working though they used to run earlier perfectly. But when I tried to reinstall the OS, I followed all the steps in installation. But still no effect - the OS is behaving like the same as earlier. Even a reistallation of OS should delete all the existing application folders on Hard disk - it's not doing that either. Do you know what's going on

Installing an OS doesn't repair it. So it's no secret that all the registry
entries related to previously installed applications don't exist anymore.
This is true for any OS. I'm confused as to how you expect a new OS
installation which is not a repair or upgrade to magicly generate the
applications and their relevent registry entries. You need to run the
application's setup to recreate these, as expected.

Also true for any OS, if you choose NOT to repartition or reformat a drive
during installation, well... the drive won't be partitioned or formatted.
Since you aren't modifying the file structure and its format, why should the
files and folders magicly disappear?

When you install your operating system, delete or recreate the partitions
during the text phase of setup if thats what you want. Doing this without a
data backup will zap your files, as expected.

Note that if what you have is an OEM installation CD with a proprietary
script, contact the OEM support line or read their installation documents
for the proper procedure to get what you wish. That would not be within the
scope of this newsgroup.
 
No basically what happened was even after re-formatting I am getting the same set of files and folders - nothing have been deleted. And before reformatting I was not getting any of my applications up because it was giving me a blank screen under 'Add/Remove Programs' under 'Control Panel' - thats why I reformatted. It looks like the OS is not getting installed properly. I have a Windows 2000 Professional installation CD. Do I need anything other than that like fdisk etc

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
