I had a Lavasoft product running on my laptop. It went haywire and started
blocking programs. I uninstalled it. Now, I can't load new software or even
make changes to the clock. It changed some of the Icons on programs. I do
not have a restore CD. Any ideas how to restore the old image?

The "blocked" settings are still there.

The thing to do now is re-install the product...then look at the settings
and "unblock" whatever it was that was dis-allowed.

I'll try that, thanks...jz

I tried to reinstall but it didn't reinstall. Everything is still blocked.
Is there some way to restore the original settings other than from a restore
disc? Or is there a way to find a restore disc for 2000 professional? Any
advise would be appreciated.

- What exactly happens when you try to install something or
change the clock?
- Did you try to do this with the "Administrator" account?
- What happens when you do it in Safe Mode?

I suppose the first thing to try would be to reset the security of you
browser to all of its original defaults

control panel...internet options

look in the security, privacy and advanced tabs...and reset everything in
there to default

Sorry to be so negative - but I do not see a way out. Had the Computer been
mine, I should have had a Acronis backup (A weekly process) and installed that
instead of messing about.
I should have been right in 15 minutes.
It does of course mean an external disk, mine is 320GB, and a case for same.
Also you must have Acronis True Image - some expense but at the cost of the
disks nowadays even pensioners have external drives.
When you get right which an new installation will manage for you eventually the
first thing to do is to buy the disk and then True Image.
Indeed I have a need for large storage for Photos and Video. For that I got a
750GB SATA. There is no reasonable way to back that up so I bought another 750
SATA and am now working them as a Raid, which means, what goes on one disk
automatically goes on the other - in fact an identical pair of twins.
Ok I am still wide open for a theft but have trained an German Shepherd Bitch to
guard against that.
