Ask a friend to burn a copy for you.

Thank you all I was hoping it would be somewhere on the hard drive

How was Windows 2000 originally provided? Although there could have been
a Windows 2000 cdrom, some OEM's may sell it with the installation files
also in a folder on the hard drive. Look for an i386 folder in the hard
drive.

Sorry, there is no "i386" file, only an i386 folder. What do
you actually wish to achieve?

My apologies I am not very computer smart but I am sure this is obvious by
now...All I wish to accomplish is to restore the original o.s. I removed it
throught the control panel, by using add or remove.. Yes this was a stupid
move..I do not have a disk.. This a computer from a business that went
under.. I have key code on back but does not work.. I used a burned copy of
windows 2000 pro.. I am rambling but in short I just want to run win 2000
pro on this computer and uninsall xp..

This makes things a little clearer. Before you start the process
of re-installing Win2000, you need to answer a few questions.

1. Where exactly does this "i386" folder reside? On the hard
disk? On a CD?
2. How many files are there in this folder (including subfolders).
3. If you have any important data files, are they backed up
on a different disk, e.g. an external USB disk?
4. Do you realise that you will have to re-install each and
every application, e.g. MS Office, EMail?
5. Do you have a floppy disk drive? A floppy disk or two?

If your experience with PCs is limited then you might want
to ask a Windows-literate friend to assist you. There is a
substantial risk of losing everything on your PC if you make
a mistake.

1. the folder is on the hard disk
2.there are a ton of files in the folder 4,916 files and 4 folders
3.nothing important on this computer
4.I will dowhatever I have to do to get this computer running again
5.I have a cd drive

When I asked "where exactly does this i386 folder reside",
I expected an answer such as "in C:\i386". If this is where
it is then you must burn this folder to a CD.

My own Win2000 CD has these subfolders in the i386 folder:
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> COMPDATA
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> LANG
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> SYSTEM32
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> UNIPROC
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> WIN9XMIG
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> WIN9XUPG
07/12/1999 23:00 <DIR> WINNTUPG
Do you have the same subfolders?

I asked you if you had a floppy disk drive. You said
that you have a CD drive. I assumed this but I need
to know about the floppy disk drive.

How many drives do you have on your hard disk, and
what type are they (FAT32 or NTFS)? Click Start / Run /
diskmgmt.msc {OK} to find out.

Another question I just thought of: Does your i386 folder
contain Win2000 or WinXP files? The Win2000 folder
contains this file:

Directory of F:\I386
07/12/1999 23:00 81,797 WINNT.EXE

Note the size and the date stamp.

Those files are not in there

I've read all the replies & comments and the only suggestion I would
have for you is to search the "binary" newsgroups for a copy of Win2K
and use your key to install. Win2K Pro is constantly uploaded on a daily
basis.
Is it legal???? I dunno and am not looking to debate it but to me it's
the same as borrowing a friends copy & using your legitamite key. It may
prove to be a better solution for you instead of pullin' yer hair out
trying to figure this whole thing out. Your choice which road you wanna
take.......Good Luck!

Newsgroup info: (This will explain how the binary files are uploaded &
downloaded)

Binsearch generates NZB's if you find what you need and I would suggest
using GrabIt to download what you need because it's a very simple little
less involved program.

I have a copy of the cd and the key code on the back of the computer does not
work neither does the one microsoft provided for me.. Maybe it has something
to do with this laptop coming from a business

But I thought you said you have no CD? I'm confused now........A
business computer shouldn't matter, wipe the drive completely & it
should be a problem installing.
Worst case scenario I can upload a CD copy for you (integrated with SP4
& some updates to lessen the load on the update page) but will not
provide a key, use your own. But you would have to let me know if their
are any limitations of your knowledge of binary groups.....
