from Ormand,

Just for your reference;
just I got this information from one news-group;
i have not yet confirmed yet by myself.....
good luck!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ fogot password of win2k ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

1. The Windows 2000 server which pulls apart the hard disk of the system
which has forgotten the password and attache it another system.
2. After starting to Windows 2000 normally,
copy the sam file which is in "\WINNT\system32\config" by the disk which
has forgotten the password.
3. Start / Run / regedt32 / OK.

4. After selecting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, on the registry menu press Load
Hive
5. In the Load Hive dialog, navigate to "sam file(the file which is you
saved in 2)
and type the name(anything) into Key Name and press OK.
6. After choosing the file which carried out Load Hive by the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window,
and select security of a menu bar, it sets up so that Administrator can
have all authority.
7. in there, you have to change the value of password of administrator as
NULL
the account of administrator is SAM\SAM\Domains\Account\Users\000001F4
if you select this value and open 'F:REG_Binary', you can see
the administrator's encryped password. erase all and make it empty. it
means that the value of password will be NULL.
8. Save it and press "Unload Hive" on the registry menu, pressing Yes to
confirm.
9. Copy the SAM file to the system(hard disk) which has forgotten the
password.
(I strongly recommend to backup the original SAM file)
10. Logon becomes possible even if it will put in an administrator password
although it is what value, if it starts again after equipping a system
from
the first with the hard disk by which the password was corrected by null
value.

Hello,

I have used this particular piece of software, and it works on 2000/XP
platform. Read the directions before using the software. It is a
REALLY good way to reset PW of forgotten Admin accounts, and any other
active user acct on your computer.

Home Page URL= http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Software URL= http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/cd030426.zip
[there are other download types/versions that may fit your situation
better, take a look.]

:: Notes from the page::

*This is a utility to (re)set the password of any user that has a
valid (local) account on your NT system, by modifying the crypted
password in the registrys SAM file.
*You do not need to know the old password to set a new one.
*It works offline, that is, you have to shutdown your computer and
boot off a floppydisk or CD. The bootdisk includes stuff to access
NTFS partitions and scripts to glue the whole thing together.
*Works with syskey (no need to turn it off, but you can if you have
lost the key)
*Will detect and offer to unlock locked or disabled out user accounts!
