i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me. my
computer will not start up. it gets to the screen where
it says has Windows 2000 picture, and at the bottom it
says "starting up..." and it shows the progress (the
screen with the blue line at the bottom that shows that
the computer is thinking) but gets stuck about halfway. i
tried starting it in safe mode but it will not get past
that start up page. anyone know anything i can try?

See if you bootup using the Windows 2000 CD and use its Repair option.

What were the most recent changes on this computer?

In addition, if you can get to the point of hitting F8 to get the
advanced boot options menu, select to enable boot logging. Then check
the %systemroot%\ntbtlog.txt logfile to see what got loaded and if
anything looks like it should've loaded but did not or errored, or if
the logfile dies at whatever driver load is causing the hang. This will
append to any existing copy of this logfile, so you probably want to
delete it before booting into normal mode with logging enabled. This
file gets written to (and appended) each time you boot into Safe mode.
