I have a PC with the following config:-
Tomato ZX-98-AT Mainbaord
Pentium-3 500Mhz(100Mhz clock speed)
Windows 2000 OS
40 GB HDD Seagate

The above configuration works fine with 64MB SDRAM
but when tried with 256 MB SDRAM it gives memory dump.
Tried reinstalling windows-2000-professional with 256 MB
RAM but the setup fails to copy all the files so the
installation does no get completed properly.Reinstalled
the os with 64 MB RAM and all the files got copied
perfectly fine and 2000 got installed. Can you help me
trace what is the real problem why 2000 fails to work with
256MB RAM with the above configuration?
Thanks in advance.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanxs Dave.
But the problem is that windows 98 got installed without
any issues. So I didnot doubt on the RAm being bad or Mis-
Matching.

Most likely bad or mis-matched RAM

What you're seeing there may be the difference in operating system
requirements as far as matching is concerned.

Zida's Tomato ZX! It was high-end m/b back in 1999... It has two memory
slots and supports 2x128MB single-sided modules rather 1x256MB.

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard _and_ any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM
configuration. Consult your PC/motherboard's manual for specific RAM
types that are acceptable, and any configuration requirements.

That means very little, I'm afraid. Win2K is much more sensitive
to defective or sub-standard hardware, particularly RAM, than is
Win98.
