Windows 2000 Pro To Windows XP

i hope this is the right place to ask,

i recently bought a computer from my friend and it had
windows 2000 pro on it so i went and bought windows xp
but when i try to install windows xp i get an error
saying "setup cannot upgrade your current installation to
windows xp" is there anyway i can uninstall windows 2000
pro then fresh install windows xp???

any help is greatly appreciated

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
