I am trying to install W2K Pro on a compaq Deskpro EN and I am getting this
Error Message:

Line 9979 in the INF file is invalid.

I have installed this OS on other machines with the same CD. This is the
only machine that I am getting the error on.

Does anyone have any idea in correcting this error?

That's why it won't install.

Ever modify the CD, such as slipstreaming and/or hotfixes for the
install media?

Ever modify the setup files (may not be an exclusive list): SETUPLDR.BIN
(binary file), TXTSETUP.SIF (text file), or any *.inf or *.in_
(compressed information file)?

If so, that's probably the culprit -- most likely a bad file. If not,
could be bad media.

I really hate to ask for a 10k line to be posted to a NG so everyone
downloads it. (Read: don't attach the file) Do you have some sort of
webpage you can stick it onto so the people interested can view it?

I just correct the problem after soon time with Compaq techs. Apparently,
this line checks the memory's CRC. Any mismatch or memory defects will cause
this error. I swapped the memory and the OS installed OK with any errors.

Thanks

OOH! Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind for my tech brain.
