Sorry about the double post. When I posted the first time I glimpsed that the
group field was empty, so when the post took a long time to appear in the
list, I thought it had been lost and rewrote it.
Of course performance is a complicated thing. What I'm asking is if the 64
bit and dual-core CPU specifically is a problem for 32 bit Windows 2000 Pro
and 32 bit applications.
If you want to go into detail, you're welcome!
Other stuff in my box:
- RAM: 4 Gbyte 800 MHz DDR2
- MB: Asus M2N4-SLI
- Graphics: Asus EN6200TC
- SCSI: Atto Tech UL5D dual-channel SCSI 320 PCIe
- HD: IBM DNES-31850W, SCSI 160, 18 Gbyte
- HD: Seagate ST3146707LW, SCSI 320, 73 Gbyte (page file 1024-4095 Mbyte)
- HD: Seagate ST373207LW, SCSI 320, 146 Gbyte
- Tape: Sony AIT 2 Turbo 80 Gbyte
- Monitor: EIZO FlexScan F980
- CD-ROM: some old thing
- CD-RW: BrainWave(?) CRD-BP2 12x(?)
The most frequently used and/or requiring apps (and OS):
- Windows 2000 Pro
- Mozilla 1.7
- Office 2000 (Excel, Access, Word)
- SQL Server 2000/MSDE (2-3 instances one of which has a 10-20 Gbyte DB)
- Delphi 5 and 7
- Firebird 1.5 (can upgrade to 2.0)
- CorelDRAW 12
- GoldWave 5.17
- ModelMaker 8
- Paint Shop Pro 7
- Yosemite Backup 8.1
- Norman Virus Control 5.9
- Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum
The apps I'm mostly worried about are SQL Server, Firebird, CorelDRAW 12,
Paint Shop Pro and GoldWave. Those are the apps where performance (or lack
thereof) is most noticeable.
Thanks,
Kjell
