Hell

I am having a problem networking a 2000 Pro desktop to a XP Home laptop. I can see the computer names from each computer and I can map a drive from the 2000 Pro desktop to the XP Home laptop, but I cannot map a network drive from the XP Home laptop to the 2000 Pro desktop, eventhough I can see the computer listed in the workgoup (the computer name will not expand to show what is acutally shared on it). I have created a new share on the C drive of the desktop (because the default share is only for local admin) and gave full rights to EVERYONE. These two computers are linked through a cross over cable, but I did try a hub set up with no difference in outcome.

Hi,

Two things to think about. In a domain environment, permissions are handled at the domain
level. In your network, permissions to shares are handles on each individual machine. In order
for you to share out some resources, you normally have to add the other user to the share. If
you log onto both machines with the same user name and same password, then you should
not have a problem. So you may need ot create users accounts on respective machines for
sharing resources for users who log onto other machines.

Hope this helps,
Gary
