There are several HP drivers that require the old driver removed before
installing the new driver. The way I have done this is change each printer
that uses to old driver to a new driver in the Advanced tab of the printer
properties. In the printers folder you should sort on the drivers column.
I add a driver for a printer that we do not use (Agfa Accuset v52.3 since
this is the first driver in the list). Once all printers are no longer
using the old driver you need to delete the old driver. I always have to
kill the explorer process since the UI binaries stay loaded in memory and
50% of the time I also stop and restart the spooler.
Now install the new driver from HP and switch the printers to use the new
driver. HP is aware of the setting data structure mismatch and are working
on a solution so customers do not have to remove the old driver before
installing the new one.
