Print serving is a built in function of Windows 2000 Server. The Manage
Your Server dialog (shortcut Target: =
res://%systemroot%\system32\mys.dll/mys.hta) has Print Server as a "Role"
and has quite a bit of related information.
Basically, all you need to do is:
1. make sure File and Print Sharing is enabled in the Network Connection
properties
2. install one or more printers as local printers
3. share the printers
4. if you have clients other than Windows 2000 (e.g. NT 4, Win9x), install
the Additional Drivers
If you have Windows XP client computers, if you make sure the Windows 2000
drivers are "Printer Driver Model Version 3", you shouldn't need to add
"Additional Drivers" for those clients. If, in Printers, File, Server
Properties, Drivers the Version is "Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000", the
driver is NOT a "Version 3" driver and there's a good chance it won't work
correctly for Windows XP clients. Most Windows XP printer drivers will work
just fine on Windows 2000, but there are a lot of "Windows 2000" drivers
that don't work on Windows XP.
