Windows 2000 Patches (MBSA)

We install patches using SMS. Most patches install and are reported as being
correctly installed. However MBSA will show some patches as missing. If you
review the registry and Add/Remove Programs you will see the missing patch.
If you reinstall the patch MBSA will then show the patch as installed.

Should I treat MBSA as the gospel?
If it looks like a patch is there but MBSA reports no what should I trust?
Sometimes MBSA list a patch that was replaced by a later patch. Any
suggestions on a one stop method for checking to see if those patches were
replaced?
 
There is a separate newsgroup where you may want to post in. Yes I have seen
similar results but usually it is for "notifications" which you can suppress
when scanning with MBSA from the command line. The KB article below may be
helpful. At the second link you will see that MBSA2.0 is now in beta and
available for download. Hopefully it will end some of the confusion. ---
