Hello! This is a very specific question about the Swedish version of Windows 2000 (SP4). I want to know if it is a bug, feature or simply "by design". When you implement that "passwords must meet complexity requirements" in Active Directory - if you try to change your password and enter a password that doesn't meet the requirements, you'll be instructed what the requirements are. (I.e. mix capital letters, not your username, use numbers etc.). In the Swedish version of Windows 2000 all you get as a user is : "You need to enter a password that matches the password policy". This is extremely bad since it generates tons of calls to our helpdesk with questions about how to enter a password that's right - since they don't know what the requirements are. Can someone tell me if there is or will be a patch or somekind of workaround for this

There is a patch from Microsoft. Not sure it it will work with the Swedish versio

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;82142

This gives you the following message when your password does not meet the security requirements -

The password supplied does not meet the minimum complexity requirements. Please select another password that meets all of the following criteria:
is at least x characters
has not been used in the previous x passwords
does not contain your account or full name;
contains at least three of the following four character groups:

English uppercase characters (A through Z);
English lowercase characters (a through z);
Numerals (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (such as !, $, #, %

I don't know, but in the meantime you can configure a message text for users trying
to logon with a brief note on what the requirements are. This can be done appropriate
security policy - domain/OU under security settings/local policies/security
