Without apparent cause my list of network adapters was
expanded from the usual two by the addition of a Direct
Parallel and 4 different WAN adapters. This happened
coincident with a severe performance problem in which no
programs could be initiated and cpu usage went to 100%.

In safe mode the "new" adapters were disabled and the
computer returned to normal operation.

Attempts to uninstall the "new" adapters have failed with
a notice that they may be required at bootup. Please
advise how to uninstall and return the system to pre event
condition.

I have heard of similar strange occurences at another site.

Thank you,

Owen Dwyer

It almost sounds like the adapters where now viewable because device manager
was put into the hidden devices view.

Goto Device Manger, then in the MMC click on View. Is there a check box by
show Hidden Devices? The adapters you mentioned will be there is the hidden
device view is enabled, if it isn't they won't be shown.

Your CPU is going to 100% for some other reason. If you goto task manager do
you see a process that has high cpu?

Thanks for the response. The view of devices manager was not set to view
hidden devices. I did check for hidden devices and there are none in this
category, network adapters.

The 100% cpu usage issue is past, and no info from the task manager cpu
minutes is available.

Can you advise how to uninstall the extra devices?

Thank you,
