I am having an issue with a few laptops. Seems that when
the user log's on while connected to the nework everything
works great. However, when the user is off the network -
after typing in the password the system hangs at the
background. No start menu, No program icons, Cannot Ctrl-
Alt-Delete. The only way to get the system to respond is
to hold down the on off button and shut the system down...

Are they trying to log onto the domain offline? If so cached logons need to
be enabled in security policy and even if it is it takes a while for the
computer to determine that a domain controller is not available. If they are
trying to logon to a local machine account, it should no take very long
unless a script is trying to map drives, etc to computers that are not
available. -- Steve
